We begin our story in 2002, when after graduating with a degree in product design our founder Roddy, stumbled into a part time job in a Hifi shop in Edinburgh. Taking to the role like a duck to water, knowledge of the industry was learned at a rapid rate and a true love for Home Cinema and Hifi was formed.
After about 3 years in the shop, the decision was made to leave and form an installation company called Home Entertainment Solutions with one of our founders best friends, a builder called Craig.
The combination of Hifi and Home Cinema knowledge paired with building experience, gave the company a formidable offering.
Over time, the scale and complexities of the projects undertaken grew and we looked to adjacent markets and overseas locations for inspiration.
Extensive use of products within the installations, started to show not all items had been thought through fully, or actually been used by the people that designed them. So with irritation formed a seed to start developing some of our own solutions.
The tipping point was actually projector screens and the installation of them. On one particular installation some post install damage occurred to the velvet border of a screen and the company we had purchased it from offered no help or solution other than a full price total replacement.
This paired with an unsuccessful trip abroad to find a new screen supplier led to the creation of our first in-house manufactured screen system, which we called Ultimate Screens in 2016. Ultimate Screens was a joint venture with our install company and Karma AV, a distribution company who we still work closely with today.
To solve the issue of replacing a damaged velvet section of a projector screen (the issue that occurred with the one we had bought previously) we decided that a magnetic velvet fascia system was the simple solution.
But what this then meant, was that we could make the screen fabric retaining track accessible on the front of the screen which today is still a game changing feature as it means you can install the projector screen surface when the screen is on the wall, not face down on the floor.
Initially the screens sold were for our own projects and also through distribution, but it was clear that to grow and to refine the product, more focus was needed on the manufacturing side and less on the installation side.
Cinema Build Systems was formed in 2018. With 2019 our proper launch year to the Industry as a trade supplier. That year we blessed to win several awards, most notably CEDIA Hardware product of the year for the EMEA region.
Since then we have remained focussed on developing true problem solving solutions and products, with our core values of simplicity, value and scalability in the DNA of every Cinema Build Systems offering.
The Cinema Build Systems ecosystem now covers everything from screens, acoustics, lighting and fabrics as a true end to end solution, and we also now supply projects internationally through our distribution network.
